School district achieves significant district-wide savings, reduces consumption and maintenance with LightEdison.

LightEdison delivered a cost-effective LED design-build solution to improve facilities’ safety and environments for students and educators.

Challenge

The Long Beach School District (LBSD) is comprised of five schools providing K-12 education for approximately 3,000 students. LBSD had a large assortment of outdated fluorescent fixtures with inconsistent color temperature and lower than optimal light levels in classrooms, labs, gymnasiums, administration office and sports complexes. The District wanted to improve lighting, as well as reduce utility and maintenance expenses.

Solution

LightEdison self-performed a high-quality designbuild solution of over 5,000 fixtures, including troffers, strip and wrap fixtures, down-lights, area lights, flag lighting, wall-packs, exits signs and more to reduce energy consumption and increase facilities illumination. Consistency of architectural styling and color temperature were also achieved.

Results

The LED lighting retrofit solution is expected to generate savings of $905,000 over 10-years. In addition to the very strong financial performance of this installation, lighting energy consumption was reduced by 68%, and included a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of over 10,000,000 lbs. Most importantly, the new lighting provides an enhanced, vibrant learning atmosphere for the most important occupants – the school children. Brilliant savings delivered!
